The Park Foreman is responsible for the daily operations of the Orchards Residents Association (ORA) facilities, grounds, and amenities, and other areas under the umbrella of the ORA.  This is a career for someone who enjoys parks and recreation!  The changing seasons help keep the job fresh and interesting.  If you enjoy a fun atmosphere, creative tasks, and collaborating ideas then this job is for you.

The Orchards Residents Association (ORA) is a not-for-profit corporation whose purpose is to manage, maintain and operate The Orchards amenities.  ORA owns, operates and maintains The Orchards Club House, a 12, 000 square foot recreation facility that is situated on an 8-acre park. The building includes a banquet hall, offices, kitchen, and 3 multi-purpose rooms, skate change room and lease space. The park features a playground, tennis courts, NHL-sized outdoor hockey rink, picnic and BBQ areas, toboggan hill, green space, splash park and a pleasure rink. ORA is responsible for social, educational, and recreational programming, events, and activities that inspire social engagement and increase community spirit.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Park Foreman will be responsible for the following:

Administrative Functions:

  • Provide exceptional customer service  
  • Complete Administrative tasks as directed
  • Produce work schedules in accordance with the availability of employees, approved budget, labour laws and monitor the attendance of crew
  • Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting as necessary due to weather, supply delivery, and personnel
  • Recruit, hire, mentor, manage and train employees
  • Maintain accurate, detailed logs & reports
  • Develop, monitor and manage yearly budgets for maintenance
  • Procure new supplies and equipment as required; maintain positive working relationships with vendors
  • Create progress reports to ensure that any significant information is communicated to the General Manager
  • Lead all contract work that is off site by communicating directly with customer and sending monthly invoices

Safety:

  • Ensure all Workplace Health and Safety requirements are met
  • Leads all action items from Safety Committee Meetings
  • Ensure safe work conditions exist at all times
  • Handle on-site incidents and emergencies in a proactive manner
  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of the crew under his/her direction

Leadership:

  • Providing leadership and training to part-time maintenance staff
  • Supervising and scheduling of part-time maintenance staff
  • Ensuring all ORA staff are educated in work place safety and are working in a safe manner, adhering to OH&S standards and all of ORA’s safety policies and procedures

Operations and Maintenance Functions:

  • Install, operate, and maintain amenities, including outdoor recreational ice surface and water splash park
  • Maintain exceptional landscape maintenance to set standards; monitor procedures to ensure proper quality
  • General horticultural practices and snow removal, ensuring that all sidewalks, trails, parks, and parking lots are clear
  • Mowing, weeding, watering and general turf maintenance of all ORA property including emptying garbage cans
  • Enforce rules and regulations of the park and amenities
  • Ensure park, play structures and all other equipment are always clean and in good repair
  • Routine scheduled equipment maintenance
  • Report and repair damaged or vandalized property
  • Ensure that the buildings and park are secured at closing (i.e. all doors/windows locked and security system armed)
  • Provide leadership to other Parks Maintenance staff while working effectively in a team to prioritize tasks
  • Plan work in an efficient and effective order, maximizing progress in a safe and timely manner
  • Overseeing and maintaining the ORA Toolshed, a resident service which provides tools residents can check-out
  • Monitor expenditures and maintain an understanding of the repair and maintenance budget
  • Improve and develop processes in order to ensure the effective operation of ORA
  • Meet and communicate with other managers and necessary ORA personnel as required in order to fully resolve conflicts, complications and changes to processes
  • Uphold ORA’s exceptional level of customer service by exhibiting a positive teamwork attitude
  • Train new crew members whenever they join the team and provide workers with continuing education according to the latest industry requirements in order that all work meets the most current specifications.

Employees are expected to perform these duties with minimal supervision

Hours of Employment

  • Hours of the ORA are 9:00am to 9:00pm 7 days per week. As a minimum, you will be required to work a regular 40 hour week (8 hours per day) Monday to Friday (i.e. 7:00am to 3:30pm with 30 minute lunch break and two (2) 15 minute breaks). These times are subject to change depending on the needs of the facility.

This description does not include Special Events or any unforeseen circumstances that may require extra attention and additional hours.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Have own transportation with clean driving history
  • Ability to build and maintain good relationships with residents and staff members
  • Capable of enforcing company policy and regulations
  • Strong work ethic
  • Must be customer focused
  • Good time management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to problem solve to find solutions

  • Provide criminal background check and driver abstract
